From the Mint's annual reports, summed across 1988-89 and 1989-90 and 1990-91 because the reports file this coin date under more than one fiscal year. No document here names how many coins were struck bearing the date 1989: every figure above counts a report year instead, which is a different quantity. Most published mintages are exactly this substitution made silently.

Every year above opens to the documents behind its figure. 2 of 57 also have a page of their own, where there was more to say than a row can hold.

What it is made of

Not copied from a table. Each row is the standard the instrument named beside it actually prescribed, and the fine metal weight is derived from that standard rather than looked up. Where a column says "not stated", the instrument does not state it and we will not supply a number it does not carry.

Varieties and errors

A variety is a claim about a coin, and claims differ in how well they are evidenced. The grade beside each says what kind of source stands behind it. This catalogue prints no valuations, so nothing here tells you what a variety is worth.

The double struck coin was a rare error indeed until 2009 when double struck two dollar coins began to turn up in circulation in Sydney (Figure 13).20 All the coins were dated 2008 or 2009 and generally were removed from circulation early and are thus found in higher grades.
